The business of Internet advertising in Latin America will increase almost fivefold to reach 2,600 million dollars by year 2013, says a study commissioned by Google.
According to the findings of the report, conducted by consultancy Pyramid Research, this will mean that the region will overtake 9% of global online advertising market compared to the 2% today.
In the next five years, Latin America also will recorde substantial growth in the number of Internet users and for 2013 will be in the area about 200 million computers, with strong growth in the number of laptops.
The study forecasts that the number of users that will access the Internet from home will reach 170 million in 2013, while 111 million computers will continue to use the work or public places like cafes.
Today, about 60% of American Internet users surf the Internet from home, says the survey and the majority, 56%, makes personal purposes only.
77% of those surveyed by Pyramid Research said the network used primarily to communicate with others, while 63% said the use to access pages and 28% agreed that the main aim was to download content.
Despite this percentage, only a small proportion are paid downloads, the report adds, and only games or applications recorded a rate of 5%.
The study states that electronic commerce is still at an embryonic stage, but there are signs that it has interesting potential.
About 40% of online shoppers are young people between 18 and 29, who acquired from home and over half, 57%, plans to increase its spending on the network next year.
